At a crypto casino security is in your own hands more than at any other type of casino: a transfer cannot be reversed, a foreign casino is not protected by Estonian supervision and the biggest threat often comes from around the casino, not from the casino. This guide brings three layers together in one place — the account, the wallet and the deposit — and shows what to check at each step.
Three layers that need protecting
| Layer | What can happen | Main protection |
|---|---|---|
| Casino account | The password leaks, someone logs in and withdraws the balance | A unique password, 2FA with an authenticator app, a withdrawal address whitelist |
| Wallet | The seed phrase leaks or you sign a malicious token approval | Seed phrase on paper only, a separate small hot wallet for play |
| Deposit | Wrong network, wrong address, missing memo | Address from the cashier every time, a test amount, the network name word for word |
All three are needed. A strong account does not help if money goes to the wrong address because of address poisoning, and a correct deposit does not help if someone else gets into your account.
The fourth layer is the casino itself. You have no control over it, but you can choose: a verifiable licence, clear terms and a successful test withdrawal. The criteria for choosing a casino are set out in the security checklist.
A safe first deposit step by step
The first time takes ten minutes. After that only the last two steps remain and they take a minute.
- Open the casino from a bookmarkCheck the domain letter by letter and save it as a bookmark. Do not use links from ads, chats or "mirror links" — that is where clone sites are.
- Protect the accountA unique long password in a password manager and two-factor authentication with an authenticator app. If the casino offers a withdrawal address whitelist, turn it on.
- Separate play moneyUse a separate small wallet for play. A larger amount stays in a cold wallet or a multisig setup that never connects to any site.
- Copy the address from the cashier and send a test amountCopy the address, and the memo if needed, from the cashier every time, check the network name and the middle characters of the address. First send a small amount above the minimum and wait until it appears in the balance.
- Save the TXID and withdraw winningsWrite down the TXID of every transfer. Do not keep more at the casino than you plan to play — winnings go back to your own wallet.
If a step fails — the casino offers no 2FA, the cashier's network does not match your wallet or the test amount does not arrive — do not continue with a larger amount. Stopping is cheaper than a mistake that cannot be reversed.
Scams worth recognising
Most of a crypto player's losses come not from the game or the casino but from fraud around the casino. The most common patterns are a cloned casino site, fake support in a private message, address poisoning, a "bonus" that asks for a wallet signature, and a withdrawal "tax" that demands a new transfer before you get your money. The signs and antidotes of each are set out in the post crypto scams targeting casino players.
One rule covers a large share of them: no genuine service asks for a seed phrase or asks you to sign an approve transaction for an ordinary deposit. A second rule covers the rest: if someone writes to you first and rushes you, stop.
Signals to check about a casino
A player cannot fully prove a casino's solvency and fairness. These four signals reduce the risk when you look at them together.
The company name, registration number and licence number must match the licensing body's public register. On changes to the Curaçao system: Curaçao's new licensing system.
The withdrawal minimum and maximum, the KYC threshold and the grounds for voiding a win must be stated concretely, not with a vague "suspicious activity".
2FA with an authenticator app, session management and if possible an address whitelist. If a casino does not even offer 2FA, that is a sign.
A small withdrawal before serious play shows whether money comes back and how quickly. No review replaces your own test. On reserve proofs: proof of reserves.
If something has already happened
change the password and 2FA, log out all sessions and write to the casino's support through the official channel.
create a new wallet at once and move everything left in the old one there. The old wallet can no longer be trusted.
do not send another. Check with the TXID in a block explorer whether the transaction is in a block and where it went; a step-by-step guide is in the post stuck crypto deposit.
gather evidence (TXID, addresses, screenshots) and report it to the police. Avoid "recovery agents" who promise help for a fee — that is the second round of the same scheme. For a dispute with an honest casino the complaints guide helps.
