Memo / destination tag

An extra identifier some networks need next to the address. A missing memo can leave a deposit uncredited.

20/10/2026

A memo, destination tag or comment is an extra field some blockchains use together with the wallet address. Classic examples are XRP (destination tag), Stellar and Cosmos-based networks (memo) and TON (comment). Some exchanges and casinos also require a memo on other networks if they use one shared address for all customers.

Why a memo exists at all

If a casino has one shared address for a network, it cannot tell from the address alone whose deposit arrived. The memo is your personal reference at that address — similar to the reference number on a bank transfer. Without it the money does reach the casino's wallet, but the casino's system does not know which account balance to credit.

What happens if the memo is missing

  • The transaction succeeds on the chain and the TXID shows the money reached the casino's address.
  • The balance does not appear, because the automation cannot find the account.
  • The fix is manual, through support: TXID, amount, sending address and date. Some casinos charge for this or take a long time; there is no guarantee.

How to avoid the mistake

  • If the casino cashier shows a memo, tag or comment field, always copy it — even if the wallet marks the field as "optional".
  • Before sending, check that your wallet or exchange lets you enter a memo at all. If it does not, do not send.
  • The memo belongs to the casino's address, not to your wallet. Each casino has its own memo and it can change — copy it from the cashier again every time.

Networks where a memo is usually absent

For deposits on Bitcoin, Ethereum (ERC-20), Tron (TRC-20) and BNB Smart Chain (BEP-20) a casino usually gives each customer a separate address and no memo is needed. If the cashier still shows a memo, the rule stands: the cashier's instruction prevails.

The memo and withdrawals

If you withdraw to an exchange that uses a memo, you have to enter the exchange's memo in the casino's withdrawal form. If the casino's form does not allow a memo, do not withdraw to that exchange address — choose another network or your own non-custodial wallet. Guide

The memo from an Estonian player's point of view

An Estonian player usually buys crypto on an exchange and sends it on from there. In exchanges' withdrawal forms the memo field is often on a separate line and easy to miss — that is where most memo mistakes happen. If the casino cashier shows a memo, check before confirming that it is filled in on the exchange form.

The simplest way to avoid the risk is to use a network where the casino gives you a personal address, such as TRC-20 or the Bitcoin network. For a first transfer always send a small test amount, as the security checklist also recommends.

Resolving an uncredited deposit depends on the foreign casino's goodwill; Estonian supervision does not reach that far. Keep only the amount meant for play at the casino and set limits before playing. Free counselling: 15410.
