Lightning

Bitcoin's second-layer network: seconds and cents instead of waiting on chain and a high fee.

The Lightning Network is a second-layer network built on top of Bitcoin. Transactions move through open channels and arrive within seconds, and the fee is cents. Only the opening and closing of a channel is written to the chain.

Why it makes a difference at a casino

An ordinary bitcoin deposit waits for confirmations: ten minutes per block, half an hour with a three-confirmation requirement. The fee is paid by transaction size rather than amount, which makes small deposits unreasonably expensive on chain.

Lightning removes both problems. A five-euro deposit costs cents and arrives before you can close the cashier window. For everyday play it is clearly the best way to use bitcoin.

Limitations

- Not every house supports it. The cashier has to have a separate "Lightning" option; an ordinary BTC address does not work. - For large amounts the chain is still more suitable — channel capacity is limited. - The wallet has to support Lightning. Not all do.

The alternative

If a house does not offer Lightning, a cheap and fast alternative is a TRC-20 stablecoin — the same speed, the same low fee, but without the rate risk. See the Bitcoin casino list and the payments guide.

Lightning from an Estonian player's point of view

Lightning solves bitcoin's two big drawbacks — the waiting time and the fee — and makes a small deposit sensible. For an Estonian player the obstacle is rather that not every exchange and wallet supports it, which makes the route from euros to a Lightning balance a multi-step one.

If a house does not offer Lightning, a cheap alternative is a stablecoin moving on TRC-20: the same speed, the same low fee and without the exchange-rate risk. Bitcoin on chain is worth using for larger amounts, where the fee is small as a percentage.

Anyone who wants a fast payment without crypto will find it at Estonian houses with a bank link. Alternatives with an Estonian licence are gathered in the pangakasiinod.ee and freespin.ee comparisons. See also the crypto payments guide and the fast withdrawals ranking.
