RTP, or Return to Player, is the percentage of total stakes that a game pays back to players in the long run. A 96% RTP means the casino mathematically keeps 4% of turnover — and that 4% does not go away even when your evening goes well.

What the number actually says

RTP is an average over millions of spins, not a promise about your session. The expected return on 100 USDT of turnover is 96 USDT; the actual result can be zero or several times that. How bumpy the road there is is shown by volatility: at the same RTP one slot pays often and little, another rarely and a lot. The fewer spins, the greater the spread — in both directions.

Why it matters at a crypto casino

RTP is the only way to put a price tag on a bonus. If you have to fill a wagering requirement with 3,000 USDT of turnover, at 96% RTP the statistical cost of that is about 120 USDT. Compare that with the size of the bonus before you accept the offer — the same calculation applies to every offer, regardless of how big the percentage on the banner is.

What to check

  • The game's info window (the i button). That holds the number for that particular version, not the provider's marketing line.
  • The same slot, several RTP versions. Some casinos offer a lower-return variant — compare the info-window number with the range on the provider's page.
  • Table games. There the talk is of the house edge, not RTP: European roulette is at 2.7% because of the single zero, blackjack depends on the rules and the strategy.
  • When playing with a bonus, high-RTP games may fill the wagering at a reduced weighting or be excluded altogether.

A game's RTP is the only thing you know before a stake — the choice of casino determines which versions you are offered at all.

RTP and house edge are one number seen from two ends

House edge is 100% minus RTP. The expected loss on 10,000 USDT of turnover is 400 USDT at 96% RTP, 100 USDT at 99% and 600 USDT at 94%. Three percentage points looks small, but as turnover grows it becomes real money. Expected loss depends on turnover, not on session length: 200 spins at 1 USDT is 200 USDT of turnover and at 96% RTP the expected loss is 8 USDT, although the actual result can stray far from that. What RTP does not include

  • Bonuses, rakeback and cashback. They reduce your actual net cost but do not change the game's RTP; check what the refund is calculated on (turnover or losses).
  • Transaction and network fees on deposits and withdrawals.
  • How the result is distributed. On some slots a large part of the RTP comes from a rarely appearing bonus feature or jackpot, so most sessions end below the calculated value and a few exceed it by a wide margin.

Common mistakes

  • Choosing a game by highest RTP alone. If you want to clear a bonus, the game weighting matters more, because a high-RTP game may not count towards wagering.
  • Thinking the game "owes" you a win because you lost. Every spin is independent and RTP does not "repay" retroactively; see Wikipedia: Return to player.
  • Comparing RTP across games without looking at volatility. Two 96% games can be completely different for your budget.

RTP is an average, not a promise

RTP says how large a share of stakes a game pays back over a long period. 96% means that for every
hundred euros an average of four stays with the house. That average holds over millions of rounds, not over
your evening — in a short series the result is decided by
volatility.

Where RTP really turns into money. During the wagering. €4,000 of required turnover
at 96% RTP costs an average of €160, at 94% €240. The same bonus, fifty per cent
more expensive — and that difference is completely invisible if an offer is judged by its percentage alone.

The same game's RTP can differ between houses. Many providers let a casino choose between several settings,
so the title alone says nothing. The number is usually in the game's info panel and it is worth
checking exactly when you plan to generate a large turnover there.

Crypto casinos' originals are an exception in a good direction — crash and dice are often 97–99% RTP and
frequently provably fair. Still check the
game weighting: a high RTP together with a low weighting means the
wagering gets more expensive, not cheaper.
