Shows how evenly a game pays: low volatility means often and little, high means rarely and a lot.

Volatility (also variance) describes how evenly a game pays out. A low-volatility slot gives small wins often, a high-volatility slot stays silent for a long time and then pays all at once. RTP says how much a game returns in the long run; volatility says how bumpy the road there is.

Why it affects the choice

Two slots with the same RTP can give a completely different experience. At high volatility a hundred empty spins is normal, not a fault — but it assumes a bankroll that can take it. If the balance stretches to fifty stakes, a high-variance game is simply too thin and the session ends before the maths has a chance to start working. The main control here is not the choice of game but the size of the stake.

Volatility and bonus wagering

For filling wagering, low volatility is safer: the balance stays alive longer and turnover accumulates evenly. High volatility gives a small chance of "breaking" the requirement with one big win, but more often the balance runs out first. Neither choice changes the expected value — it is a choice of risk profile, not of profit. Before taking an offer, look at the bonus terms too: max bet and game weighting narrow the choice anyway.

What to check

- The game's info window or the provider's page — volatility is usually stated there on a three- to five-step scale. - The maximum win multiplier together with the hit frequency — a big multiplier and a rare hit mean long dry spells. - Buying the bonus feature — it raises variance sharply and is usually forbidden while a bonus is active. - Your own limits. Volatility decides what you actually feel over an evening

Volatility says how unevenly a game pays out its RTP.

and then rarely a lot. The average can be identical — the experience is not.

When that choice matters most. During the wagering. If you have to generate
a large turnover with a limited bankroll, low volatility is almost always the better call: high volatility
can take your balance to zero before the turnover is met, even when the RTP is the same. Work out the required turnover

High volatility and the max bet together are a bad combination. The max bet
limit forces a small stake, which lengthens the series, which in turn increases the probability that the balance runs
