Crypto casinos did not appear out of nowhere. Every detail of today — the provably fair check, a balance held in a stablecoin, a turnover-based KYC threshold and a Curaçao direct licence — is a trace of some earlier turning point. Here are gathered the milestones that shaped this market, and beside every event is what it really changed for a player.

Blockchain gambling
The first crypto bets did not go through a casino but straight onto the blockchain. No account was created, there was no support — there was a cryptographic proof that the draw had not been altered.
The Estonian Gambling Act comes into force
Estonia gets a modern Gambling Act: remote gaming becomes permitted under a licence and unlicensed sites start to be blocked. Crypto casinos stay outside that system from the start — they operate under a foreign licence.
Reform and consolidation
The licensing system is rewritten, anonymity is replaced by thresholds and the market contracts. What remains are those whose withdrawals and small print withstand scrutiny.
The Estonian player's position stays unchanged
Casinos with a foreign licence are not connected to the Estonian self-exclusion register HAMPI — a restriction set there does not stop them. The responsibility for setting limits stays with the player and free help is available domestically on 15410.

A timeline of crypto gambling. kryptokasiinod.ee, 2026.What this history teaches about choosing a casino
Of the brands of the boom years, a minority have survived. An operator that has lived through at least one crypto market downturn has proved it can pay out even when the flow of new players dries up. That does not automatically make it a good casino, but it removes an obvious risk.
The new order gave a player an official complaints channel for the first time, but the procedure takes time and the outcome is not guaranteed. The faster lever is still publicity — that is why we publish failed tests by name too.
No current model allows endlessly document-free play: somewhere there is a threshold. Check before a deposit what triggers it — turnover, the withdrawal amount or a change of payment method — and what documents are then asked for.
The networks are fast and cheap, so a withdrawal delay no longer comes from the blockchain but from the casino's internal approval. If the money is stuck, look for the reason in the small print, not in the network.
